D.O. Tierra del Vino

D.O. Tierra del Vino, the only wine-making appellation which directly includes the word “wine” in Spanish, is located on both banks of the Duero River as it passes from east to west through Zamora and is divided by the ancient Roman “Silver Route” from north to south.

The D.O. Tierra del Vino has produced wines since the 11th century according to the oldest records currently available. Historically, the entire economy of the region was based solely on the production of wine and grain alcohol. This viticulture tradition and the passion of the region’s populace for their vineyards have facilitated the preservation of grapevines over 150 years old.

It consists of 46 municipalities in the province of Zamora and 10 in the province of Salamanca including 12 wineries and bottling facilities with the capacity for 260,000 cases of wine, along with 170 viticulturists which farm 1,500 acres with extremely valuable vineyards which have been registered for more than 100 and 150 years.

These varieties are used to make white, claret, rosé, red, crianza, reserve and grand reserve wines which are very aromatic, well-structured, full-bodied, and balanced with a strong finish.

Thus, the D.O. Tierra del Vino has a natural capacity to produce first-rate wines with great prospects for the future. What most helps to introduce these wines into national and international markets is their engineering, year after year, of prodigious wines which can be categorized as unique.
